Flags of Europe

This mode draws only from the 26 flags of Europe in the game. Working through one region at a time is far more effective than random practice: the flags you confuse are almost always neighbours, and seeing them back to back is what fixes the difference in your memory.

What the flags of Europe have in common

Across the 26 European flags in the game, the colours that turn up most often are white, red and yellow. Horizontal bands dominate — twelve of these flags are built from them, against six using vertical ones — so when you are unsure of an orientation here, horizontal is the better guess. Five of them are Nordic crosses, which is the single tightest cluster of look-alike flags anywhere in the world.

How to work through them

Start with the group above that you already half-know — recall is much easier to sharpen than to build from nothing. Draw two flags that look alike back to back rather than one at a time: the moment you have to decide which colour goes where, the difference stops being trivia and becomes something you actually remember. When a flag scores below 70, draw it again immediately rather than moving on; the second attempt is where the correction sticks.
